เครื่องดนตรี : แซ็กโซโฟน

            เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 13 กันยายน 2516 เริ่มเล่นดนตรีจากวงดุริยางค์ในโรงเรียน เป่าคลาริเน็ตและสนใจฟังเพลงแจ๊ส สมัยเรียนม.3 โรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบ นนทบุรี เมื่อได้ฟังเพลงพระราชนิพนธ์บรรเลงโดยวง อินฟินิตี้ วงในแนวฟิวชั่นแจ๊ส ซึ่งกลายเป็นเพลงแรกที่สร้างแรงบันดาลใจให้เด็กชายโก้หัดแกะเพลง

            หลังจบม.3 ย้ายมาเรียนที่โรงเรียนพณิชยการพระนคร และได้พบกับอ.กวินท์วุฒิ กลั่นไพฑูรย์ ผู้ควบคุมวงดุริยางค์ของโรงเรียน ซึ่งชักชวนให้โก้มาเป็นนักดนตรีแจ๊ส และมีโอกาสได้เป่าคลาริเน็ตในวงของ อ.กวินวุฒิ ในคอกเทลเลาจน์ เวลากลางคืน ด้วยค่าแรงวันละ 100 บาท

ในระหว่างนั้น อ.กวินท์วุฒิ ได้แนะนำให้ลูกศิษย์สรรหาเพลงแจ๊สชั้นดีอย่างงานของ  Stan Getz, Antonio Jobim, และอัลบั้ม Good Time For Love ของ Sadao Watanabe มาฟัง โก้จึงตระหนักว่าเส้นทางที่เขาอยากเดินต้องอยู่บนสายเดียวกับศิลปินคนโปรดเหล่านี้แน่นอน

            จากนั้นเดินเข้าสู่คณะครุศาสตร์ เอกวิชาดนตรีสากล ที่จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ซึ่งเปิดประตูสู่แวดวงดนตรีในห้องอัดเสียงของค่ายเทปในประเทศไทยที่มีรุ่นพี่ชักชวนให้โก้ไปเป็นมือปืนรับจ้างในห้องอัด หรือ Studio Musician ตั้งแต่เรียนมหาวิทยาลัยปี 1

            แต่เนื่องจากที่จุฬาฯ เน้นดนตรีคลาสสิก ห้องเรียนที่สอนให้โก้รู้จักและเล่นดนตรีแจ๊สได้อย่างแท้จริงกลับเป็น “เวทีดนตรี” โดยนักดนตรีอาชีพซึ่งโก้ติดตามฟังและร่วมเล่นใน ผับอย่าง Brown Sugar, Blues-Jazz ฯลฯ

        โก้เริ่มสั่งสมประสบการณ์มาเรื่อยๆ จนมีโอกาสได้ก่อตั้งวง Boy Thai ออกอัลบั้มแรกที่มีชื่อว่า Siamese Samba กับค่าย Pisces Music หลังจากนั้นตระเวนเล่นกับอีกหลายวง อาทิ The Jazz Infinity, วง T-Bone จากนั้นตั้งวงของตนเองเล่นเพลงประเภท Fusion Jazz, Funky และ Pop Jazz ในชื่อของ The Funk Machine มีงานเล่นตามคลับในประเทศไทยหลายแห่ง ในขณะเดียวกันก็มีงานแสดงร่วมกับศิลปินไทยชื่อดัง อาทิ ธงชัย แม็คอินไตย, เจนิเฟอร์ คิ้ม, วงโลโซ  และศิลปินชั้นนำอีกมากมาย ส่งผลให้เขากลายมาเป็นมือแซ็กโซโฟนซึ่งเป็นที่รู้จักมากที่สุดในประเทศ

ประสบการณ์ทางดนตรี 

- บันทึกเสียงแซ็กโซโฟนให้กับศิลปินต่างๆ เช่น โลโซ, ธงไชย แมคอินไตย์, ฯลฯ

- งานเพลงลูกทุ่ง อัลบั้ม สาวน้อยคาเฟ่, อาภาพร นครสวรรค์

- อาจารย์พิเศษ คณะดุริยางค์ศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล,คณะมนุษย์ศาสตร์ ม.เกษตรศาสตร์

Koh Mr.SaxMax

Koh, born in 1973, studied Music Education at Chulalongkorn University (1991-1994).

He attended workshops with the Great Saxophone professors like Mr.Terent Kynaston, Mr. Roger Greenberg, and Mr.Michael Paolo.

• In 1990 Koh received the award for the Best Outstanding musician from the Thailand Coke Music Award Program.

• In 1991 Koh and his band were selected and awarded the Champion of Nescafe Music Festival.

• In 1992 Koh and his band were awarded Champion of Yamaha Thailand Band Competition and made it into the final round of the World Finals in Japan.

Since then he has performed in over 10 different countries and recorded 4 solo albums. He has also performed on hundreds of records, films, television shows

and commercial jingles. Koh began his professional career with his teacher, the pianist Mr. Jass, in 1989, when he was only 16 years old. He later became a member of Boy Thai Band (Thai modern music), The Jazz Infinity (Thai Fusion Jazz) and T-Bone (Thai Reggae and Ska Band). Following that, Koh formed his own band play fusion jazz, funky and pop jazz under the name The Funk Machine Band and played in many clubs in Thailand. During this period Koh performed with artists such as Bird (Thongchai Macintai), Jennifer Kim, Loso and many other top artists in Thailand. Koh also performed

in several concerts and festivals in and out of Thailand such as:

• the Tribute to Rewat Buddinant,

• the Seefah Deepblue Concert,

• the Bangkok Music Festival,

• the Hau-Hin Jazz Festival,

• the Bangkok International Jazz Festival,

• the Satoru Shionoya Group Jazz Concert (Bangkok),

• the Asian Art Festival (Singapore),

• the Penang Jazz Festival (Malaysia),

• the KL Jazz Festival (Malaysia),

• the Jazz Festival in Sarawak (Malaysia),

• the Sanya Jazz Festival (China),

• the J-Asian pop concert (Japan),

• the Thai Festival (Japan), and played in several important musical functions in Italy, England, Ireland,the U.S.A, etc.

Since 2002, Koh has released 4 solo albums with GMM Grammy under the name “Koh Mr.Saxman” in the genre of Thai pop jazz and Fusion jazz. Many of his songs got extended radio play and reached the Top 40 on radio charts. In 2003, Koh won the prize for the “Best Instrumental Song of the Year” with the song “Rush Hour” from his first album “Mr.Saxman.” Koh teaches music and saxophone in the music departments at Mahidol University, Kasatesart University, Rangsit University and at the KPN music academy. Koh has also organmised the Saxophone community in Thailand into a society called the “Sax Society.” Koh continues to serve as an official Endorser of Paul

Mauriat Saxophones.
